1. Informative
2. Interpretive
3. Emotional
4. Documentary
Informative
The purpose
of the informative interview is to impart information to the listener. The
details are to be very clear to the listener. There may be a considerable
discussion beforehand to clarify what information is required and to allow time
for the interviewee to recall or check any statistics. The topics may include
the action surrounding a military operation, the events and decisions made at a
union meeting, the proposals contained in the city’s newly announced
development plan, a health issue or a program for educating the farmer society.
An interviewee may include a Minister, a doctor or an Expert of a particular
field etc.
Interpretive
The purpose
is supplying the facts and asking the interviewee (person from whom the
interview is to be taken) either to comment on them or to explain them. The aim
is to expose his reasoning and allow the listener to make a judgment on his
sense of values or priorities. The interviewer must be well alert and attentive
to pick up and challenge the opinions expressed by the interviewee .examples
can be a government figure (for any future planning), a political figure (for a
recent campaign or a press conference)
The main point is that interviewer is not asking for the facts of the
matter, since these will be generally known, rather the interviewee’s reaction
to the facts. Since the content is reactive it should on no account be
rehearsed in its detail.
Emotional
The aim is
to provide an insight into the interviewee’s state of mind so that the
listeners may better understand what is involved in human terms. Specific
examples can be a school bus accident in which children around 10 to 12 years
were died, Anger of people in the city for a frequent failure of electricity,
celebrations of any sports team on their success. The nature of this interview
is the strength of feeling present rather than its rationality. Interviewer
need to be at his most sensitive in even when the event itself is tragic. But
he is quickly criticized for being too intrusive into other’s grief. It is in
this respect that his manner of asking a question is as important as its
content. For example an interview with the family who had lost any of the
family member in riots. The purpose of interview is to make people feel closer
to the victim’s family and make them raise voice for them rather only a chunk
for the sake of entertaining.
Documentary
In
documentary interview first the facts, background information and sequence of
events are presented then effect on people, a personal reaction to the issue. The
process of recalling history should surprise, it should throw new light on
events and people, and reveal character of the person. For example an old politician,
retired Chief of Army or a former President. These interviews are planned
according to the public interest.
Personality
Interview
These are
the interviews which deal with the likes and dislikes of the interviewee. It
talks about family life and nature of a person. May include Plans, objectives,
scandals, inspiration etc. example a film star, sports man, a politician etc.
Each
interview is different but two principles remain same for the interviewer these
are:
- Listen carefully
- let the interviewee talk more
(these interviews are broadcast on Television as well )
